MMO fans have no reasons to complain about 2021. We have several new releases and massive content updates coming our way this year.
Let’s check out the best upcoming MMOs and expansions for 2021.
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker
Final Fantasy XIV is one of the hottest MMORPGs right now. Come fall, things are gonna get even hotter with the Endwalker expansion.
Story-wise, Endwalker is bringing the conclusion to the Hydaelyn and Zodiark saga and sets in motion the next big catastrophe. All we can say about the new zones is that they are jaw-dropping. A new healer job, Sage, comes with this expansion. The level cap goes up 10 levels to 90. New quests, dungeons, raids, allies, housing area, and more are part of the feature list. Final Fantasy XIV expansions have never disappointed so far and we have the same expectations from Endwalker.
Release Date: Fall 2021
Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood
Blackwood is the Elder Scrolls Online expansion included in the year-long adventure Gates of Oblivion. It’s confirmed for release on June 1st. TES 4: Oblivion fans, rejoice! The expansion takes you to the eponymous zone where you will do what TES adventurers do best…uncover schemes and thwart Daedric plans. The main antagonist is Mehrunes Dagon, the famous Daedric Prince that we all love to hate.
Blackwood will feature new dungeons, raids, world events, companions, and a myriad of items to collect.
Release Date: June 1st 2021
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic
No, we didn’t time-travel back to 2007. The year is 2021 and Blizzard Entertainment will re-release WoW’s first expansion. TBC Classic will release with Patch 2.4.3, however, we don’t have all the details yet. Blizzard is looking into some tweaks to avoid the boss nerfs that made the WoW Classic raiding experience different than the original Vanilla.
Another piece of good news is that Draenei and Blood Elves will be available in the pre-patch so you can check them out before TBC Classic releases. That should be sometime in 2021, most likely towards the end of the summer.
Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons
It has been a year since End of Dragons was announced as the next Guild Wars 2 expansion and sadly, we still don’t know much about it, except that it will come in 2021 and it will not bring the end of the story.
The expansion will allow players to travel to the famous Cantha region and explore the Shing Jea Island and Echovald Forest. The one-minute-long End of Dragons teaser was picked apart by avid fans and streamers and what looks like an Aetherblade symbol was spotted. We hope to have more details soon.
Lord of the Rings Online: Gundabad
LOTRO developers are busy at work with the 2021 game updates. A one-hour-long community Q&A session revealed SSG’s plans for the veteran MMORPG. A Gundabad-themed expansion is in the works. It was originally planned for Spring 2021 but it was delayed for Fall 2021.
Info is scarce at this point. The expansion might feature the Brawler class. All we know for sure is that the new Lord of the Rings Online expansion will take place in Gundabad, the Misty Mountains stronghold that once belonged to an Orc leader.
Release Date: Fall 2021

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis
The title is a mouthful and the abbreviation is no better either. PSO2:NGS is a massive Phantasy Star Online 2 update. It’s a remaster on steroids so big that it deserves its own name.
The graphics and game engine are getting a serious overhaul. In addition to better graphics and remastered game systems, PSO2:NG will feature a revised story and a new character creation system. This new-old “open-field online RPG” comes with a new combat system and gameplay features. The release is slated for 2021.

Wild Terra 2: New Lands
Wild Terra 2: New Lands is available in early access since January 2021. The full version is planned for Winter 2021.
The game has a medieval setting. The seasons feature is one interesting mechanic. Each season will open a new continent where players can experience an adventure that’s different from the persistent mainland region. Seasons last for a limited time and have different rules and rewards.
Wild Terra 2: New Lands has regular events, PvP zones, and fresh MMO mechanics. For example, your character may gain weight if you eat too much. Hmm, talking about escaping real life in games.
Relaese Date: Winter 2021
Kakao Games is bringing Elyon to the Western Market in the second half of 2021.
The MMORPG is already out in Korea so we have a ton of info about it. We know that it has five classes, player housing, and massive realm versus realm battlegrounds. Players will be able to enlist the help of pets and companions as battle allies. Different vehicles, including airships, extend the character system with unique combat abilities.
Elyon fills the MMORPG variety gap with a steampunk-themed universe.
Saga of Lucimia
Saga of Lucimia is a unique entry on the MMORPG list. It doesn’t have any PvP. It’s a pure PvE game with group-based gameplay in a high-fantasy setting.
Eight-player groups are the main focus but the game also has content for smaller parties. Raids will have two or three groups. This means that you can raid in 24-player parties.
Saga of Lucimia doesn’t have traditional MMO classes. Players will choose from different abilities and talents to design unique characters. Sandbox mechanics, player housing, and crafting complete the gameplay.
According to its Steam page, Bless Unleashed will release for PC in 2021. This gorgeous MMORPG is already out on last-gen consoles. The game features an open-world that you can discover in a party or alone.
Be careful as the choices you make impact your character development. Weapons and skills allow players to fashion their avatars as they see fit. Fight against open-world bosses and team up with others to explore dungeons. Bless Unleashed is a free-to-play MMORPG.
Starbase is a voxel-based Sci-Fi MMO that will arrive on Steam in early access in the first half of 2021. The gameplay features base and shipbuilding, a crafting system, and exploration. It’s fun to create and it can be even more fun to destroy.
The Starbase environment is destructible so you can take it all down and recreate it according to your vision. It’s an MMO game so you can team up with others and work together to discover stations and gather resources. Or steal them from your fellow players. The game lets you play your way.
