Rumored Development of a New Game of Thrones MMORPG by Nexon

According to a report from Redanian Intelligence, a fansite dedicated to “Game of Thrones” and “The Witcher,” there is a rumor that Nexon is developing a new MMORPG set in the “Game of Thrones” universe. The game is said to be focused on the Northern territories of Westeros, featuring iconic locations such as Winterfell and The Wall, during the narrative period of Seasons 4 and 5 of the HBO series.

As detailed by Redanian Intelligence, the rumored game includes major characters like Jon Snow and Sam Tarly at The Wall, with Roose Bolton as the Warden of the North. However, further specifics on additional characters or regions have not been confirmed.

The report also suggests that the game will employ a new voice cast to represent the series’ characters, rather than the original actors from the television series. Players would have the choice between a male or female protagonist, with the non-selected character still significantly involved in the storyline. While precise gameplay details are sparse, the game’s structure is speculated to be similar to that of “The Elder Scrolls Online.”

Currently, there is no official confirmation from Nexon regarding the development of this MMORPG, and no release date has been projected. The timeline for such a release, if the game is indeed in development, could range from 2025 to 2026 or possibly later, given the typical duration of game development cycles.

This rumor comes ten years after the cancellation of a previous attempt to create a Game of Thrones MMORPG, titled “Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms.” That project was initially announced in 2012 and was to be developed by Bigpoint in collaboration with HBO. It aimed to be a browser-based game focusing on player alliances and PvP battles but was shelved before its beta phase could launch.
