BlizzCon 2026: World of Warcraft Forever Is the Classic+ Dream Finally Coming True

BlizzCon 2026: World of Warcraft Forever Is the Classic+ Dream Finally Coming True 1

Blizzard just dropped the biggest WoW announcement in years, and it’s not an expansion — it’s a whole new home for Classic players.

World of Warcraft: Forever is officially real. The long-rumored “Classic+” project was unveiled at BlizzCon 2026, and it’s shaping up to be exactly what vanilla fans have been begging for since 2019.

A Permanent Home, Not a Seasonal Gimmick

Ion Hazzikostas took the stage to explain how Forever came to be. The idea traces back to 2020, when players started asking a simple question: what if we just… didn’t leave?

Some wanted The Burning Crusade and beyond. But plenty of others wanted to stay in Azeroth forever — the “perfect MMO” they’d fallen in love with two decades ago. At the time, the team simply didn’t have the pipeline to make that happen.

Season of Discovery changed everything. The experimental seasonal realm pushed boundaries and taught Blizzard how much change the Classic formula could actually absorb. By mid-2024, the studio was confident it wasn’t just possible — it was compelling.

And most importantly? Players made one thing crystal clear. They didn’t want another temporary season. They wanted a forever home.

Now they’re getting one.

The Classic Philosophy Stays Intact

Lead Classic Designer Tim Jones laid out the ground rules, and purists can breathe easy.

No flying mounts. No level scaling. Azeroth stays dangerous, and preparation and teamwork still matter. The goal isn’t difficulty for difficulty’s sake — it’s encouraging deliberation, the way the original game did.

The world is the main character here. Leveling matters just as much as endgame, and new content will span every level range rather than funneling everyone toward level 60.

Perhaps the most refreshing part? There’s no expansion treadmill invalidating your progress. Forever is built as a long-term home, and the catch-up mechanic is beautifully simple: just play the game.

Four New Regions to Explore

Forever introduces a batch of new zones, and they’re not just filler.

Mount Hyjal serves as a new endgame leveling zone, answering a question we never got to ask: what happened after Archimonde’s defeat? It features solo and group content, new reputations, and the launch raid Hyjal Summit — plus one of three entrances to the Barrow Deeps raid.

The Riverglades is a level 30–45 frontier zone with over 150 new quests. Think rugged grasslands, trading routes, and a mix of humans, orcs, ogres, and more. This isn’t a story about saving Azeroth — it’s about living there. There’s even a neutral goblin port with expanded travel routes and a new dungeon, so you can finally stop running Scarlet Monastery.

Zephras Isle delivers a brand-new starting experience for levels 1–12, introducing the Skyborn — elemental hybrids who aren’t neutral. They pick a faction from day one, with Horde getting Shaman and Alliance getting Mages. Both sides can roll Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, and Druids.

Dungeons, Raids, and PvP Galore

The content slate is stacked.

Dalaran’s barrier has finally come down, and the Kirin Tor don’t have things under control. Players level 20–35 will enter the city itself as a dungeon to help sort it out. Lordaeron is a level 15–20 Horde dungeon focused on reclaiming the ruined city, though Alliance may find their way in too.

The Hall of Thanes has been breached, calling level 13–18 Alliance players to protect its treasures — while Horde players might want to swipe a few for themselves.

Higher-level players get Alcaz Island Prison, The Shaper’s Terrace, and Krol’Dok Stronghold at levels 40–60, plus the furbolg city of Blackmaw Hold.

On the raid front, Barrow Deeps is the first 10-player raid with three entrances across the world. The Night Elves are holding some dangerous prisoners there — including one infamous character we’re probably not ready to face. Hyjal Summit rounds things out as a 20-player raid.

PvP fans aren’t left out either. The original battlegrounds return, alongside The Darkspear Islands — a strategic 15v15 battleground blending Eye of the Storm and Arathi Basin mechanics.

When Can You Play?

World of Warcraft: Forever launches November 4th, with the beta kicking off this coming Thursday.

There’s still plenty we don’t know — class changes, itemization updates, and how those legendary quests and tier sets will work. But for Classic players who never wanted to leave Azeroth behind?

The wait is almost over.
