In a recent interview on the 1v1 Podcast, Episode 100, Vlhadus Gaming sat down with Steven Sharif, the creative director of Ashes of Creation, to discuss the latest developments surrounding the highly anticipated MMORPG. Sharif revealed insights into the ongoing testing for Alpha 2, where the Intrepid Studios team is focusing heavily on stability and performance. Alpha 1 testers have been invited to participate in this pre-Alpha 2 phase, with testing extended to a 24/7 schedule in an effort to identify bugs and crashes before wider rollout.

Sharif emphasized that while Ashes of Creation has garnered attention from players eager to play, the project remains very much in a testing phase. Intrepid Studios is actively collecting feedback from testers, particularly on gameplay systems and performance, to prioritize bug fixes and iterate on core mechanics. Sharif also acknowledged that some players are unfamiliar with the process of testing an MMO in its alpha state, reiterating the importance of understanding that this phase is for testing, not playing a finished product.

The conversation also covered the dynamic systems that define Ashes of Creation, such as the PVX design philosophy, which blends PvP and PvE elements into a cohesive experience. Sharif explained that certain core systems, like the dynamic node system and the game’s focus on a world driven by player interactions, will not change, even in response to community feedback, as these are fundamental to the game’s identity.

Regarding the highly requested Rogue archetype, Sharif confirmed that its development has been delayed but will be part of the next phase of testing. Additionally, he mentioned that all of the game’s biomes will be tested by players during Alpha 2, which will continue until the game’s official launch.

Sharif also touched on other gameplay elements, such as the node system’s influence on the game world, the upcoming Rogue showcase, and the use of public test realms to focus on specific systems. As the team prepares for the next testing phase, they are balancing feedback with their vision for the game, ensuring that Ashes of Creation remains true to its ambitious goals.
