PlanetSide 2 Celebrates 20 Years with Exciting ‘Fortification’ PC Update
The New Update Features Soundtracks, Special Events, Weapon Additions, and Construction Overhaul
20 years after the release of the original PlanetSide, the sequel, PlanetSide 2, continues to offer a compelling combined arms experience that spans across multiple continents and planets. To celebrate this two-decade-long journey, PlanetSide 2 has launched the ‘Fortification’ update that includes a host of exciting additions, events, and overhauls, as well as some nostalgic throwbacks to the original game.
Starting May 20, official PlanetSide and PlanetSide 2 soundtracks will be available across various streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple iTunes, Amazon Music, Deezer, Pandora, TikTok, iHeartRadio, Napster, Shazam, and YouTube Music. Content creators are also permitted to use these soundtracks in their videos and creations, marking another significant milestone for the PlanetSide community.
From May 17 to May 21, all players will benefit from a double experience event, allowing gamers to advance faster and earn rewards quicker. There will also be a 20-Year Legacy Event Directive from May 17 to June 4 that features various paths to completion, reflecting the game’s diverse sandbox of playstyles. This event will allow players to earn the new NS-D Helios heavy weapon, a tribute to the original PlanetSide “Dragon” flame weapon.
In addition to these events, PlanetSide 2 is offering a 20-Year Legacy Bundle for 2999 DBC until June 30. This bundle includes “APEX” variants of the first generation SMGs, a cosmetic variant of the Helios, a 6-month Heroic Boost, and more.
One of the most substantial updates in this release is the overhaul of the construction system. The goal of this revamp is to make construction more accessible and enjoyable for players, providing more opportunities for diverse base building. The construction system now features many new objects, and existing ones have been either upgraded or entirely reworked, offering more cover and interior spaces to battle around.
To help players get acquainted with the new construction system, one-time construction-based tutorial missions have been added, with new daily construction-based missions available for all players. VR Training now also includes Cortium spawns and facility silos, allowing players to practice with construction objects.
The UI has seen updates as well, including streamlined processes for placing construction objects and improved functionality to mark favorite construction objects. The construction system has also seen improvements in placement controls, placement visuals, and object rotation speed.
The maintenance of the construction system has also been overhauled, with the removal of passive Cortium drain and a move towards a more active form of Cortium drain. This change allows players to set up bases far in advance without the need for constant Cortium runs.
