The Lord of the Rings Online Unveils Ambitious 2023 Plans, Including Return to Angmar and System Revisions
The Lord of the Rings Online is set to have a big year in 2023, according to a letter to the players from Lead Systems Designer Allan “Orion” Maki. In the letter, Maki outlined the ambitious goals for the game in the upcoming year, which include updating existing systems and experiences, expanding the game world, and adding new content.
One of the major updates planned for 2023 is a visit to the land of Angmar and the iron city of Carn Dûm. The Return to Carn Dûm update will include a new end game instance cluster with two 3-player instances, a 6-player instance, a new raid, and various rewards. The Delving system will also be expanded into the Library and School at Tham Mírdain and revised to make it more appealing to players.
In addition to the Angmar update, the first release of the new year will focus on targeted changes for the Captain and Warden classes, as well as a revision of the Power system. The crafting system will also be overhauled throughout the year, with the goal of breaking apart vocations and allowing players to choose which profession they want to learn.
Festival and events will also be a focus in 2023, with the return of Ill Omens and expanded rewards for the Spring festival. New Player vs Monster Player events will also be introduced inside the Ettenmoors.
Overall, LOTRO’s 2023 roadmap promises to bring new and exciting experiences for players, while also updating and improving existing systems. With a focus on expanding the game world, story, and direction, players can expect a lot of new content and experiences as the game enters its 16th year.
