The Narrative Team behind New World has released a new Forged in Aeternum video update titled The Enemy Families of Aeternum. The video provides an in-depth analysis of the various enemy families that players will encounter in the game.

New World is set in the mystical land of Aeternum, where immortality comes at a cost. The island is infested with lethal enemies ranging from the Ancients to the Angry Earth. The video sheds light on the Varangian Knights, a human enemy faction in the game.

The Narrative Team caught up with Narrative Designer Aaron de Orive to explore the Varangian Knights, who were Norsemen that settled in Eastern Europe. The team wanted these fierce warriors to have connections to King Artorius, first as enemies and then as uneasy allies. The leader of the Varangian Knights, Warlord Varik, is an impressive figure, as formidable as Artorius himself.

Varik was a founding member of the legendary Knights of the Round Table and fought alongside Artorius against the Corrupted Myrddin during the Wars of Crimson Madness. When the forces of Corruption seemed on the verge of victory, Varik and his Varangians retreated into uncharted areas of Aeternum to establish a new Varangian stronghold.

Known as “The Hammer” for the strength of his blows, Varik is a warrior without equal. His goal is to unite all of Aeternum under his banner, and he seeks to master the island’s power, even if it means sacrificing everything. The video offers a glimpse into the intriguing backstory behind the Varangian Knights and their role in the world of Aeternum.
