It’s Been 10 Years Since the Launch of SWTOR and the Death of Star Wars Galaxies
It’s been 10 years since Star Wars The Old Republic first launched, which of course also means that it has been 10 years since Star Wars Galaxies was shut down.
SWTOR was originally set to celebrate the anniversary with the release of the next expansion titled Legacy of the Sith, but that has been pushed back to February in order to get it more polished for release.
SWTOR players can however celebrate with plenty of anniversary events going on well into the new year.
Pirate Incursion: December 14th – December 21st, 2021
Life Day: December 14th, 2021 – January 11th, 2022
Ten Year Anniversary: December 14th, 2021 – January, 2023
Double XP Event: December 20th, 2021 – January 4th, 2022
Bounty Contract Week: December 28th, 2021 – January 4th, 2022

Bringing SWTOR to life meant that the old-school fan-favorite Star Wars Galaxies had to die back in 2011. All was not lost though for the game sprung back to life in the form of the Star Wars Galaxies Legends private server which is celebrating with their own events.
The snow is starting to fall across our galaxy as the wookiee tradition of Life Day approaches. As much as family, joy, and harmony are a part of Life Day, we think if you step back and look at Star Wars Galaxies as a whole, you might find those same values ingrained in the overall culture of SWG as it is today thanks to most of what we were able to experience way back when. It’s easy to forget just how far along we’ve come from where we first started our adventures. For Star Wars Galaxies though, perhaps it’s just how far we’ve come since that adventure came to an end.
Head over to the SWGLegends website to learn more about the celebration.
