New World’s Forged in Aeternum Video Update Explores the Languages of Aeternum

In the latest Forged in Aeternum update the New World Development Team provides a behind-the-scenes look at the creation and execution of the game’s many languages. The team explains that they wanted to make the languages of Aeternum sound impressive and alien, adding to the immersive experience for players.

The Corrupted conlang, in particular, was designed to be deep and guttural, with a staccato quality that fits the demonic entities in the game. The team played around with vocalizations and intonations during the recording of temp voice-over to create a pattern that did the conlang justice. The result is a language that is more disturbing to hear than to read, adding an extra layer of tension and immersion to the game.

New World also features many other languages, each with its own unique style and tone. As players explore Aeternum, they will encounter NPCs speaking languages they may not understand, further adding to the feeling of exploring a new world.
